Hounds are best in West
With five games to play in the Ontario Hockey League regular season and 86 points from a record of 40-17-6, Soo Greyhounds have clinched first place in the West Division.
The Greyhounds are thus awarded the Bumbacco Trophy as West Division, regular-season champions.
The Bumbacco Trophy is named after the legendary Angelo Bumbacco of Sault Ste. Marie.
Bumbacco, who has spent a lifetime in hockey, was the Greyhounds first general manager when they entered the OHL in 1972.
To this day, the ageless Bumbacco has retained a minority ownership in the Greyhound franchise.
Angelo is a fine gentleman one of the best in hockey. Met him back in Espanola in 1962 at the first meeting to discuss the formation of a Junior Hockey League to keep kids at home.
The league still operates as the NOJHL.
