Hounds even the score
A pair of empty-net goals solidified what was a jittery outing as the Soo Greyhounds upended the Owen Sound Attack 6-3 in Ontario Hockey League playoff action from tonight.
The home-ice victory for the no. 3 seed Greyhounds evened the best-of-seven, opening-round, Western Conference playoff series with the no. 6 seed Attack at one game apiece.
The series now shifts to Owen Sound for Games 3 and 4 on Monday and Wednesday.
A fast start to Game 2, in which the Hounds were all over the Attack and had an 11-1 shots on goal advantage midway through the first period, was the difference.
The Hounds led 3-0 and 4-1 before the visiting Attack made it 4-3 before the end of the second period.
Owen Sound goalie Mack Guzda was a standout with 43 saves while the Attack managed just 21 shots on Hounds goalie Matthew Villalta.
Barrett Hayton sparked the Soo with a pair of goals.
While the Hounds were the better team and controlled play and were dominant on faceoffs, the Attack showed resolve by overcoming three-goal deficits and being within a goal of tieing the game until the Soo tallied twice into the empty net.
