Brandon Halverson is passing the first tests as the new starting goalie for the Soo Greyhounds.

The Greyhounds are off to a 2-0 start this 2014-2015 Ontario Hockey League season and Halverson — who was a rookie backup to the since-graduated Matt Murray in 2013-2014 — has stood tall.

The American-born, 1996 birth-year goalie has stopped 72 of 77 shots in the Hounds two home-ice victories to date — a 7-3 win over the Sarnia Sting on Friday and a 3-2 triumph over the Niagara Ice Dogs on Saturday.

In both wins, the Hounds were outshot and Halverson — who was a second-round pick of the New York Rangers at the 2014 National Hockey League draft — came through with the 72 total saves.

What you think about “Hounds, Halverson are 2-0”

  1. Really nice to see Brandon grab the reins and go with it! Being a signed NHL prospect has helped him mature quickly and with no doubt buoyed his confidence! Though it’s early, any wins and points garnered this early will go a long way towards an anticipated title. We have plenty of talent up front, nice to see the defensive part of the game respond early as well!

  2. Well said Chris . . . . . Halversen looks like he is in Mid Season form. He had at least 7 – 8 big Saves in both of the Game’s.

  3. Hounds are looking good. Impressed by the puck moving ability of Bouramman! Sometimes felt like Nurse was forcing being PP QB. Bouramman moves the puck with such poise…you’d think he was a veteran!
