Hounds of the NHL Draft
Goalie Landon Miller and forward Owen Allard of the Soo Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League have become 2024 National Hockey League draft picks.
The 6 foot 5 Miller was selected in the fourth round by the Detroit Red Wings. He had a record of 17-6-2 with a 2.79 goals against average and .889 save percentage in 2023-2024 as the backup goalie to Charlie Schenkel. Miller developed the previous season with the Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League.
Allard, meanwhile, was selected in the fifth round by the Utah hockey club, formerly known as the Arizona Coyotes. He had been bypassed at the two previous NHL drafts.
Allard accounted for 18 goals, 26 assists, 44 points in 55 games for the Greyhounds in ’23-24. He added four goals and an assist in 10 playoff outings. Allard also skated for Team Canada at the World Junior Championships.
