Kartye gets Kraken in Seattle

Soo Greyhounds overage candidate Tye Kartye is getting a pro opportunity, Hockey News North has confirmed.

A 6-foot, 200 pound left winger with a 2001 birth date, Kartye has been invited to the National Hockey League training camp of the expansion Seattle Kraken.

Originally an eighth round pick by the Greyhounds at the 2017 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft, Kartye showed definite progress through two full seasons with the Soo.

After scoring four goals, 20 assists, 24 points as a rookie during the 2018-2019 season, Kartye came through with 25 goals, 28 assists, 53 points in 2019-2020. In total, Kartye has 29 goals, 48 assists, 77 points in 128 OHL games for the Greyhounds.

In getting an NHL look by Seattle, Kraken scout Mike Dawson told Hockey News North that Kartye is “a good, late blooming kid. It is a great opportunity for Tye to get a look.”

Seattle will have its own American Hockey League affiliate in place for the 2022-2023 season in Palm Springs, California.
