Flint Firebirds — formerly the Plymouth Whalers — have finalized an Ontario Hockey League trade with the London Knights.

Flint has acquired 1997 birth-year forward Zach Grzelewski from London for a third-round pick at the 2016 OHL draft.

The 5-foot-10, 197-pound Grzelewski was a sixth-round pick of London’s from the Thunder Bay Kings midgets at the 2013 OHL draft.

He went on to score 43 goals in 53 games for the Thunder Bay North Stars of the Superior International Jr. Hockey League in 2013-2014.

“Zach has an impressive track record so far, he’s scored goals at every level that he’s played at,” Firebirds general manager Terry Christensen said of the Thunder Bay native. “Zach has a high potential to provide us with an offensive spark this season.”

As an OHL rookie with London in 2014-2015, Grzelewski got into 36 games and netted 5 goals, 7 assists, 12 points.

Grzelewski is embracing the change in OHL teams.

“Being in London, it was a great experience to start my OHL career there but getting the opportunity to play in Flint is very exciting,” said Grzelewski. “I’m just looking to make the best of my opportunities and not take anything for granted. At the end of the day, I’m just going to work as hard as I can to try to earn an important role on the team.”
