Kingston Frontenacs have a number of new fans from the small northeastern Ontario town of Hearst.

That’s because the Frontenacs used their second-round pick from the 2014 Ontario Hockey League draft to take high-scoring, hard-nosed centre Zack Dorval from the Soo Thunder minor midgets.

Dorval, who hails from Hearst, moved away from home to live in the Soo and play for the Thunder during the 2013-2014 season — and not only did he score 48 goals in 75 games but he led the team in penalty minutes.

Now in Kingston as the Frontenacs began their main training camp yesterday, Dorval is being cheered on by several family members, including his younger sister Mai-Ann.

To be sure, Mai-Ann was quick to visit the Frontenacs pro shop and purchase a team hat and jersey.
