NHL deal for Flint goalie
Workhorse goalie Nathan Day of the Flint Firebirds of the Ontario Hockey League has signed an entry level contract with the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League.
The 6 foot 4 foot, 205 pound Day — who has a 2005 birth date and thus could still return to Flint as an overage next season — was a sixth round pick by Edmonton at the 2023 NHL draft.
Day is coming off of a ’24-25 campaign in which he had a regular season record of 26-25-5 with an .894 save percentage and 3.07 goals against average in 3,401 minutes of action for the Firebirds. He followed that up by starting and finishing all five of Flint’s playoff games with a 1-3-1 record to go with a .902 save percentage and 3.37 GAA.
The goalie with the most wins in Flint’s OHL history, Day has a career record of 74-73-11 with an .885 save percentage and 3.39 goals against average, regular season and playoffs included.
