There are prime head coaching opportunities available in both the Ontario Hockey League and Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

Head coaching vacancies in the OHL include positions open with the Guelph Storm, Owen Sound Attack, Sudbury Wolves and Windsor Spitfires.

Guelph recently fired Chad Wiseman. Over in Owen Sound, interim head coach Darren Rumble has opted not to return to the Attack for next season. In Sudbury, the Wolves are looking for a replacement for Ken MacKenzie, who recently resigned. And in Windsor, where Casey Torres was interim head coach for two thirds of the 2023-2024 season, no decision has been made yet as to who will guide the Spitfires from behind the bench in 2024-2025.

Coaches who are potential candidates for the openings include the likes of former OHL bench bosses Paul McFarland and Greg Walters. McFarland has also been an assistant coach for three different teams in the National Hockey League.

Meanwhile, in the NOJHL, the Elliot Lake Vikings are in the market for a new bench boss. Jon Campbell, who was brought in as the interim head coach late in the ’23-24 season after Chris Keleher was fired, will not return to the Vikings in ’24-25.

Soo Eagles had been looking for a new head coach following the recent departure of Doug Laprade to the AAA Under 18 Soo Indians. The Eagles have since offered their head coaching job to former Soo Thunderbirds assistant coach Jeremy Rebek and his hiring is anticipated.
