Former Ontario Hockey League defenseman Nathan McIver has been hired by the Oshawa Generals as a second assistant coach.

The 31-year old McIver played three OHL seasons as as defenseman with the erstwhile Toronto St. Michael’s Majors. While McIver was playing at St. Mike’s, current Oshawa head coach Bobby Jones was an assistant with the Majors under bench boss Dave Cameron, now with the Calgary Flames.

After leaving St. Mike’s and the OHL, McIver — who hails from Prince Edward Island — would go on to play 10 seasons as a pro including 36 games at the National Hockey League level.

He joins an Oshawa coaching staff with Jones at the helm and holdover Greg Nemisz as the Generals other assistant.
