Patterson or Stolarz?

As host entry, London Knights will use their free ticket into the Memorial Cup playdowns, which begin on Friday.

The Knights have been watching from the sidelines for more than a month after losing in the second round of the Ontario Hockey League playoffs to the eventual champion Guelph Storm.

A seasoned squad with two veteran goalies in Sault Ste. Marie product Jake Patterson and Philadelphia Flyers prospect Anthony Stolarz, London has another shot at winning the Memorial Cup title that has eluded the Knights in each of the past two seasons.

Knights coach Dale Hunter knows he has two no. 1 goalies in Patterson and Stolarz.

And so does Knights goalie coach Bill Dark.

“I know Anthony wants to be the guy and get in there and play the whole tournament and come out on top at the end,” said Dark. “But Jake is just as hungry to play as Anthony is.

“There’s redemption for all of us in the organization,” Dark continued. “This is our third straight appearance (at the Memorial Cup) and we haven’t walked away with a championship at the last two. Everyone wants to right everything, from our goalies on out.”
