Pucci has 1st skate with Hounds
Sault Ste. Marie native Frankie Pucci has begun practicing with the Soo Greyhounds but it remains to be seen when he will suit up for his hometown Ontario Hockey League team.
Pucci, a 1997 birth-year left winger who turned 19 in January, was acquired by the Greyhounds from the Erie Otters at the OHL trade deadline in exchange for a 10th-round draft pick in 2017.
But Pucci remained with the Niagara Falls Canucks of the Greater Ontario Jr. Hockey League where he had 22 goals, 45 assists, 67 points in 40 regular-season games before posting 3-7-10 totals in 8 playoff matches. Niagara Falls was recently eliminated from further playoff action.
Greyhounds head coach Drew Bannister said “there’s a possibility” that Pucci could be in the lineup when seventh-seeded Soo opens the Western Conference playoffs on the road against the second-place Sarnia Sting on Friday.
Pucci skated with the Hounds at practice for the first time today and “he did a good job out there” according to Bannister.
The 5-foot-9, 165-pound Pucci was originally a 12th-round pick by Erie from the Soo Thunder minor midgets in 2013. He spent the 2013-2014 season with the Michigan Soo Indians major midgets.
Pucci then played in a total two OHL games for Erie in 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 while on recall from Niagara Falls.
