Reunited with Flint Firebirds

Flint Firebirds — nee the Plymouth Whalers — of the Ontario Hockey League have hired a former National Hockey League journeyman defenceman as an assistant coach.

44-year old Dave Karpa played in 576 NHL games, regular season and playoffs included, suiting up for the Quebec Nordiques, Anaheim Ducks, Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers over a career that began in 1992 and ended in 2003.

In going to Flint, Karpa will work under Firebirds head coach John Gruden.

Of note, Karpa and Gruden formed a defensive pair with the Division 1, National Collegiate Athletic Association, Ferris State University Bulldogs from 1990 to 1992.
