Saginaw Spirit has obtained 1997 birth-year winger Mike Davies from the Kitchener Rangers in an Ontario Hockey League trade finalized earlier today.

Spirit general manager Dave Drinkill has confirmed that Saginaw will send Kitchener a second-round pick in 2018, a fifth-round pick in 2018 and a conditional fifth-round pick in 2019.

“We have been looking around the league for a player like Mike Davies for some time,” said Drinkill. “Mike is a big-bodied, power forward who has always been a pure goal scorer. Those types of players are a commodity and don’t come around very often, so when you get a chance to acquire a player like this, you make the move.”

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Davies is in his third OHL season and is a former first-round pick of Kitchener’s.

“Like many young players drafted high into this league, it takes time to find their game. Sometimes a fresh start, opportunity and new-found confidence is needed and I believe this to be the case in Mike,” Drinkill added.

In 142 OHL games with Kitchener, regular season and playoffs included, Davies has scored 19 goals.
