Four of the five teams in the West Division of the Ontario Hockey League have Sault Ste. Marie products on their respective rosters. Ironically, it is the Soo Greyhounds who do not have a single local lad on their team.

Calem Mangone

Saginaw Spirit boasts two players from the AAA minor hockey ranks of Sault Ste. Marie in veteran forwards Calem Mangone and Lincoln Moore. Meanwhile, Sault boy Tyson Doucette is a second-year forward with the Sarnia Sting and Connor Toms is a seasoned defenseman with the Windsor Spitfires. And Rylan Fellinger is a rookie defenseman with the Flint Firebirds.

Mangone and Moore are both with Saginaw as products of the OHL’s under 18 supplementary draft. Doucette made Sarnia as a free agent walk-on in 2022. Toms is a former third round OHL priority selections draft pick of his hometown Greyhounds from back in 2020 who was traded to Windsor earlier this season. And Fellinger was a distant 13th round pick by Flint at the 2023 OHL priority selections draft.

Tyson Doucette

In particular, Mangone and Doucette are having impact seasons with their respective teams. Mangone has nine goals, 21 assists, 30 points in 27 games for Saginaw. And Doucette has a team-leading 12 goals to go with nine assists in 30 games for Sarnia.
