One of the very best play by play announcers in the Ontario Hockey League has been given a promotion by his employer.

Joey (Slick) Battaino

Saginaw Spirit president and managing partner Craig Goslin has confirmed the appointment of Joey Battaino as vice president of communications and broadcasting.

“Joey has demonstrated outstanding skill and commitment to his role in the broadcast booth and with this promotion, he will continue to demonstrate his skills as an NHL-caliber play-by-play broadcaster, while doing the same with our social/digital media and outreach programs,” relayed Goslin. “I expect, with his leadership, the Spirit will see an increased presence in our social media outreach and programs that are affiliated with them.”

The 30-year old Battaino, aka Slick, has been calling games for Saginaw since the 2015-2016 OHL season and has gained a good reputation with his effervescent, energetic style of broadcasting and his knowledge of the league. He is also easy to deal with in representing the Spirit from the communications end of his job.

While retaining his duties as play-by-play broadcaster and liaison between the Spirit and the media, Battaino will spearhead all social and digital marketing efforts by the Saginaw organization, said Goslin.
