The annual Ontario Hockey League draft will be held via the internet this Saturday and two Sault Ste. Marie skaters appear poised to be picked as mid-to-late-round selections.

They are 2000 birth-year forwards Keegan Stevenson and Lucas Theriault, who skated for the Soo Major Thunderbirds of the Great North Midget Hockey League during the 2015-2016 season.

Stevenson, a 5-foot-11, 165-pounder, scored 17 goals, 12 assists, 29 points in just 21 regular-season games. He is projected as a mid-round pick. Stevenson is a son to former Ontario Hockey League and National Hockey League left winger Jeremy Stevenson.

Theriault, a 5-foot-7, 165-pounder, produced 31 goals, 34 assists, 65 points in 34 regular-season games for the Soo midgets. He is being projected as a late-round pick.

Jimmy Mancuso, who scouts Northern Ontario for the Guelph Storm, agrees with the projections of when Stevenson and Theriault stand to be selected.

Asked if he thinks any other players from the Soo will be drafted on Saturday, Mancuso said he doubted it.

What you think about “Soo kids up for OHL draft”

  1. Hey Randy, one thing. Jim Mancuso has no credibility in the hockey world as much as he thinks he does (in my opinion.) Scouts for Guelph….what a joke!! Good luck as always to the soo boys!

  2. As usual accurate report Randy, although terrible results locally. Unfortunately our local talent gets overlooked once again.
