Sudbury Wolves have been sold
Pending the approval of the Ontario Hockey League and the City of Greater Sudbury, the Sudbury Wolves have been sold, HockeyNewsNorth.com has confirmed.
The Burgess/Edwards family — who have owned the Wolves since 1986 — have entered into an agreement to transfer full ownership of the team to a group headed by Sudbury businessman Dario Zulich and Toronto lawyer Perry Dellelce.
Sources are saying the deal is worth in the neighbourhood of $11 million.
Zulich et al have plans to hopefully build a new arena as part of a sportsplex on the Kingsway in Sudbury.
The Wolves will be celebrating their 45th anniversary as an OHL franchise this 2016-2017 season.
WOW !!!!!
Here is to a Playoff Spot for our 45th Anniversery.
Well I think that Mark & his Family will leave a nice leggacy of an Ownership that saved OHL Hockey in Sudbury even tho’ they never did win a Championship.
Agree with you CKSO .. Burgess takes a lot of crap from Fans but ur right without Burgess Sudbury would have lost there OHL team a long time ago.
Rumor is 12 million, the deal may also have included BK Corp Marketing. Hopefully we will see a new arena soon before the old barn caves in!
I hope this has nothing to do with the CHLPA….
Of course it has everything to do with it.
Since the launch of the CHLPA, a lot of owners have sold their teams. The CHL is a multi-million dollar business now, but before then it wasn’t. There should be a union if owners are making millions, game night staff working for free, and players not getting profits from jersey sales and other Hockey Canada sanctioned events.
