The grandson of legendary Ontario Hockey League coach Bert Templeton is headed to the town where the late bench boss enhanced his storied reputation.

1997 birth-year defenseman Stephen Templeton has been traded by the Oshawa Generals to the North Bay Battalion for a 10th-round pick at this year’s OHL draft. A sixth-round pick of Oshawa at the 2013 OHL draft, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound Templeton has since appeared in 126 regular-season games with the Generals.

The youngster’s grandfather, who passed away in 2003 at age 63, is one of the winningest coaches in OHL history, having manned the benches of the Hamilton Fincups, Niagara Falls Flyers, North Bay Centennials, Barrie Colts and Sudbury Wolves.

The late, great Templeton coached the erstwhile Centennials for 12 seasons as the most-successful coach — by far — in franchise history. In all, he coached 26 years in the OHL and won 907 regular-season games.
