Sault Ste. Marie product Camaryn Baber has been named captain of the Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League.

The 2021-2022 campaign will be an overage season for Baber, who has a 2001 birth date.

A determined, hard-working center who plays a relentless style, Baber was originally a third round pick by Saginaw at the 2017 OHL priority selections draft.

A true warrior, Baber played with an injured shoulder during much of his three previous OHL seasons in Saginaw. He has since had the shoulder surgically repaired and has fully recovered.

In 135 games for Saginaw to date, regular season and playoffs included, the 5-foot-11, 180 pound Baber has 21 goals, 39 assists, 60 points.

Prior to playing for Saginaw, Baber starred for the Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

In becoming team captain, Baber follows the lead of his father, Brad Baber, who served as captain of the Soo Greyhounds during the 1994-1995 OHL season.
