Waiting for another OHL shot

He has played in two games for the powerhouse Erie Otters — one last season and one this season — but having narrowly missed out on gaining a full-time roster spot, 1997 birth-year forward Frankie Pucci awaits another Ontario Hockey League opportunity.

Meantime, the 5-foot-10, 165-pound Pucci is putting up points for a second season with the Niagara Falls Canucks of the Greater Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

In 12 games with Niagara Falls after being reassigned there by Erie earlier this 2015-2016 season, Pucci has 7 goals, 10 assists, 17 points. This follows the 2014-2015 season in which Pucci put up 17 goals, 25 assists, 42 points in 46 games with Niagara Falls.

Aptly-described by his former coach with the Soo Indians major midgets, Pat Carricato, and by members of the Erie organization as a small-but-skilled forward with good speed and a nasty edge, Pucci’s main drawback may be that he is a draft pick of the Otters, who not only won the Western Conference championship in 2014-2015 but are in first place overall thus far this 2015-2016 season.

At any rate, all Pucci can do now is to continue to play hard and play well in the GOJHL and hope that Erie or another OHL team — like perhaps his hometown Soo Greyhounds — come calling.

What you think about “Waiting for another OHL shot”

  1. Good luck trying to break back into the OHL now. He is a good player but at the Jr. B ranks as his numbers are proving with Niagara Falls .I wish him well & hope 3 times the charm for his break, but not looking too promising with Erie anyways…
