Derek MacKenzie is the new head coach of the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League. He replaces Craig Duncanson, who was fired 11 games into the season following a 3-7-1 start.

The 41-year old MacKenzie, a Sudbury native and a former Wolves player who served as captain of the OHL team in the early 2000s, went on to play in more than 600 games as a National Hockey League forward, most recently with the Florida Panthers. He was then an assistant coach with Florida for the past three seasons.

He’ll take over from his father, assistant general manager Ken MacKenzie, who also became the Wolves interim head coach after Duncanson was fired.
