Defending the Kam River
A seasoned brigade of blue line skaters has the Kam River Fighting Walleye of the Superior International Jr. Hockey League in a good position ahead of the 2021-2022 season.
Veteran defensemen who have committed to the Fighting Walleye for the upcoming season include Collin Wiseman, Trystan Goodman, Brad Fortier and Zachary Fortin.
Wiseman and Goodman have 2002 birth dates while Fortier and Fortin were both born in 2001.
Notably, Fortin was obtained from the Timmins Rock of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League earlier this summer. Besides having played parts of two seasons in Timmins, Fortin also has the experience of 68 games with the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Jr. Hockey League
Meanwhile, Kam River general manager Kevin McCallum likes the current and eventual makeup of the Fighting Walleye defense corps.
“The defensemen we have returning puts us in a great spot to add accordingly at our (late August) camp. We have some exciting prospects coming that will definitely push to make the club and potentially shake things up even more,” McCallum told Hockey News North.
“Our current returning veterans are perfect for leading the rookies coming in to our program. We are confident in our back end and especially with our D coach Rylan Henley … they are in great hands to develop throughout the season and allow us the ability to win every night,” McCallum added.
