Fighting Irish in prep mode

It may only be May and the start of the 2015-2016 season may still be four months away.

But the Detroit Fighting Irish of the newly-formed Midwest Division of the United States Premier Hockey League is in all-out prep mode for the ’15-16 campaign.

To be sure, with 13 veterans slated to return next season, numbers are not a concern for Fighting Irish coach-general manager Dan Vasquez and his co-coach, Pete Flynn.

But as Flynn noted, the Fighting Irish have areas to address.

“Our main focus is to try to improve our goaltending and add depth,” said Flynn.

Vasquez, in the meantime, has verified the signing of a pair of graduating midgets — goalie Ronald Schocker and forward Dakota Potter.

And Vasquez and Flynn have rewarded a pair of returning veteran forwards with positions of authority for the ’15-16 season as Aaron Robinson has been named team captain with Christian Ramage to serve as alternate captain.

PROSPECT SKATES

The Fighting Irish will play host to a pair of upcoming prospects skates beginning this Sunday at 7 p.m. and continuing again on Sunday, May 17, also at 7 p.m. at the Ice Box Sports Centre.

TRYOUT CAMP

The Fighting Irish will hold its spring tryout camp on May 18-21 from 6:30-10 p.m. each night.
