Reigning champion Kam River Fighting Walleye of the Superior International Jr. Hockey League has added another homegrown product in a cash exchange trade with the Hearst Lumberjacks of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

This time it is 2004 birth year forward Jett Mintenko who is headed home to Kam River from Hearst. Regular season and playoffs included for Hearst during the 2022-2023 campaign, Mintenko had 21 goals, 19 assists, 40 points in 59 games as a rookie skater in the NOJHL.

Fighting Walleye general manager Kevin McCallum engineered the trade for Mintenko.

“We couldn’t be happier with bringing Jett home to play in front of his family and friends,” said McCallum. “Jett is going to be a key piece for us with his work ethic and competitive nature. He made it clear he wanted to come home and have an opportunity to help us win again.”

The acquisition of Mintenko follows an earlier off season trade with Hearst in which Kam River acquired 2005 birth year defenseman Caleb Labelle.
