Geoff Walker has his first win as the head coach of the first place Kam River Fighting Walleye of the Superior International Jr. Hockey League.

Kam River improved its league best record to 17-5-1 and gave Walker his first win as the Fighting Walleye bench boss with a 5-2 victory over the Sioux Lookout Bombers on Saturday. Walker, who coached the Red Lake Miners to the 2021-2022 SIJHL championship, is now two games into his gig with Kam River after leaving a pro coaching job in Sweden.

The 34-year old Walker opted to depart Sweden for Kam River after the Fighting Walleye and former head coach Matt Valley parted ways a few weeks ago. Kam River general manager Kevin McCallum and assistant coach Vern Ray had been running the Fighting Walleye bench while the team awaited Walker’s arrival from Sweden.
