Kam River is first in Superior
Another regular season, another first place finish. A model franchise among the eight teams of the Superior International Jr. Hockey League, the Kam River Fighting Walleye has done nothing but finish atop the standings in each of its three full seasons of existence.
Kam River clinched its third straight regular season crown on the weekend to boost its record to 37-9-1. And what is so impressive about the Fighting Walleye finishing first every season is that it has done so with three different head coaches.
First it was Matt Valley, then it was Geoff Walker and now it is Jesse Messier who is the Kam River bench boss. The mainstay and architect of the Fighting Walleye success is general manager Kevin McCallum, who has been with the franchise since its debut season in the SIJHL.
Kevin McCallum has done what no other GM comes to mind recently. He has compiled winning teams each year while focusing on community and human rights as well. Talk to any player, parent or fan of the Walleye and the “Pride” of the franchise immediately shines through.
Congratulations to Kam River and the management staff, well deserved.
