Kam River Fighting Walleye of the Superior International Jr. Hockey League has snagged a plum homegrown defenseman from the Thunder Bay Kings AAA Under 18 elite program.

He is Max Buffone, a puck moving defender of proficiency and prowess. Buffone, who has a 2004 birth date and stands in at 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds, netted seven goals, 15 assists, 22 points in 36 games with the U18 Kings in 2021-2022.

Fighting Walleye general manager Kevin McCallum was naturally ecstatic to confirm Buffone’s commitment to Kam River, which finished in first place in the SIJHL over the course of the ’21-22 regular season and made it to the finals of the playoffs.

“We are excited to add Max’s skill to our lineup,” McCallum told Hockey News North. “He is a ready made junior hockey d-man who we are expecting big things from as he develops within our program. We also anticipate Max being a leader for us in the future.”
