Moving up from the Fighting Irish
After a lengthy association with the Detroit Fighting Irish through levels and leagues, 1995 birth-year forward Christian Ramage is moving on to the college ranks, HockeyNewsNorth.com has confirmed.
Ramage, who produced 15 goals, 20 assists, 35 points in 40 regular-season games for the Fighting Irish during the 2015-2016 U.S. Premier Hockey League Midwest Division season, is headed to the University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines of the Division 1, American Collegiate Hockey Association.
Fighting Irish coach-general manager Dan Vasquez lauded the character traits of Ramage, calling him “a total team player and leader.
“Christian has been given a great opportunity to continue his education at a world-class university while becoming part of a team that is loaded with talent and has put together some great stepping stones to continued success,” noted Vasquez.
Ramage is the third Fighting Irish player in the past week to get a commitment to play at an ACHA school.
Earlier, 1998 birth-year forward Dakota Potter and 1996 birth-year forward Nolan Jakrzewski committed to the Lindenwood University Lions, who operate ACHA Division 1 and 2 teams in the St. Charles, Missouri area.
As Ramage finished third on the Fighting Irish in scoring in 2015-2016, Potter and Jakrzewski were 1-2 on the Detroit USPHLers.
Potter, who still has three seasons of junior eligibility remaining, heads to Lindenwood after leading the Fighting Irish with 33 goals, 23 assists, 56 points. Jakrzewski was next on the Fighting Irish scoring chart with 29 goals, 22 assists, 51 points.
