New SIJHL team names coach

Sioux Lookout Bombers, who are poised to commence play in the Superior International Jr. Hockey League as an expansion team effective the 2022-2023 season, have confirmed their head coach.

He is 28-year old Carson Johnstone, a native of Niagara Falls, Ontario. His father, Chris Johnstone, is a former Ontario Hockey League assistant coach and head coach with the Niagara Falls Thunder, which became the Erie Otters. The elder Johnstone coached in the OHL with Niagara Falls and Erie from 1991 to 1997.

The younger Johnstone, who has a hockey background of his own, is looking ahead to settling into northwestern Ontario and taking the helm of the SIJHL’s soon-to-be-newest team in Sioux Lookout.

“I believe sincerely that will over skill, commitment to defense, and the team, wins championships. I can’t wait to get started and win in Sioux Lookout,” relayed Johnstone.

Johnstone’s playing experiences include prep, junior, and college hockey, and minor professional in Europe. He has been an assistant coach in the Greater Ontario Jr. Hockey League with both the Fort Erie Meteors and Pelham Panthers and most recently, was the head coach of the under 18 program at Fort Erie International Academy.
