Five straight road triumphs have the Red Lake Miners two victories away from winning the Superior International Jr. Hockey League playoff championship.

After winning all three road contests against the Dryden Ice Dogs to take the semi-final series four games to two, Red Lake has stolen home ice from the Kam River Fighting Walleye with a pair of victories to begin the best-of-seven final.

Ryan Hunter, formerly of the Cochrane Crunch of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League, had a goal and an assist and Kiev Kineshanko made 37 saves as Red Lake took the opener from Kam River by a 3-2 score in front of 750 fans at Norwest Arena.

Red Lake then took a 2-0 series lead with a 6-2 win over Kam River in front of 890 fans at Norwest Arena. Ryan Howe sparked the Miners with three goals and Kineshanko made 24 saves.

Games 3 and 4 are slated for Red Lake on Monday and Tuesday of next week.
