Returnees to Kam River
A trio of 2002 birth year performers — a goalie, a defenseman and a forward — have opted to return to the Kam River Fighting Walleye of the Superior International Jr. Hockey League for the 2022-2023 season, Hockey News North has confirmed.
They are goalie Eric Vanska, defenseman Kyle Lamoureux and forward Carson Gorst.
• Vanska, a local Thunder Bay product, fashioned a regular season record of 12-4-1 with a 2.51 goals against average, .927 save percentage and two shutouts in helping Kam River to a first-place finish in 2021-2022. He then had a 2-1-0 record with a 3.66 goals against average and .914 save percentage in the playoffs as Kam River made it to the finals. Vanska is expected to be the no. 1 goalie for the Fighting Walleye in ’22-23 with the graduation of Austin Madge to the college hockey ranks.
• Regular season and playoffs included, Lamoureux had two goals, 10 assists, 12 points in 39 games for the Fighting Walleye in ’21-22 after being acquired in a trade.
• Gorst totaled 16 goals, 29 assists, 45 points in 50 games over the course of the ’21-22 campaign for the Fighting Walleye.
