It was a night of firsts. Sault College Cougars recruit Trennis Riley posted his first win in the Superior International Jr. Hockey League and the Thunder Bay North Stars scored their first victory of 2022.

The rookie Riley made 33 saves to backstop the fourth-place North Stars to a 7-1 Friday night road romp over the Fort Frances Lakers. The win was Thunder Bay’s first of the 2022 segment of the season after five straight losses in which the North Stars gave up 34 goals.

The 18-year old Riley has been Thunder Bay’s third goalie behind 20-year old Jordan Smith and 19-year old Connor Lemieux since signing with the North Stars as a free agent last fall. He now has a 1-2-0 record with a 3.02 goals against average and .912 save percentage in 198 minutes of action.

Riley has a commitment from Sault College to attend school and play for the Cougars once he moves on from junior hockey. He was recruited by Sault College scout Charly Murray.
