Back in the Fighting Irish fold
Detroit Fighting Irish of the U.S. Premier Hockey League’s elite junior division will again have the services of forward Tyler Blackburn for the 2016-2017 season.
Fighting Irish coach-general manager Dan Vasquez confirmed to HockeyNewsNorth.com that the 5-foot-10, 165-pound Blackburn will wear Irish green for a second season.
In welcoming the feisty forward back into the Fighting Irish fold, Vasquez noted that Blackburn and Tristan Cruz combined to form the team’s top penalty-kill pair in 2015-2016.
“Tyler plays the game with a chip and with a determination that is really a throw-back,” Vasquez said of Blackburn, who has a 1997 birth date.
“The beauty is that Tyler’s resolve is infectious and our entire locker room feeds off of his energy. I look forward to him leading our team on and off the ice,” Vasquez added, in further praise of Blackburn.
