Sal Poggiali potted the overtime winner and the visiting Wisconsin Lumberjacks capped a frantic series comeback with a 3-2 win over the Sioux Lookout Bombers in Game 7 of their Superior International Jr. Hockey League playoff thriller.

Poggiali’s second goal of the game and fifth of the series came at 3:38 of overtime. Wisconsin managed to make it to the OT session after killing off a questionable penalty call late in the third period. It was Wisconsin’s sixth minor penalty of the game as opposed to only two for the home side from Sioux Lookout.

The win for Wisconsin was the first time in the series that the road team was victorious. The Lumberjacks had forced Game 7 after a must-win 5-3 triumph at home in Game 6.

Besides Poggiali’s heroics, goalie Kyler Lowden continued his exceptional play in the series with a 30-save outing for Wisconsin, which had finished in sixth place during the regular season, 19 points back of third place Sioux Lookout.

Wisconsin will now face the Kam River Fighting Walleye in the next round of the SIJHL playoffs.
