Aberdeen to Amherst

High-scoring defenceman Jake Horton has become the sixth member of the Aberdeen Wings of the North American Hockey League to get a Division 1, National Collegiate Athletic Association commitment this season.
Wings coach-director of hockey operations Travis Winter confirmed to HockeyNewsNorth.com that Horton will leave Aberdeen after this season to play at UMass-Amherst.
“Jake has earned this tremendous opportunity with hard work and a commitment to improve every day. He is a great example of what this league is all about. He’s a great leader and will be a great addition to U-Mass,” Winter told HockeyNewsNorth.com.
Horton, a 5-foot-11, 190-pound, 1994 birth-year defender, has 18 goals, 14 assists, 32 points in 49 games with Aberdeen thus far this season.
