Jarrad Vroman of the Motor City Monarchs has been named the Midwest Jr. Hockey League’s Defenceman of the Year.

The award was voted on by the MWJHL’s seven head coaches.

A 1997 birth-year defender who has the potential to play at a higher level, Vroman — who is still a high school senior — led all MWJHL blueliners in scoring with 10 goals, 45 assists, 55 points in 41 games this season.

“Vroman is our one-man breakout drill. He just has so much speed in our zone and he’s unstoppable bringing the puck out. He’s the captain of the power play and really knows how to spread the passes out,” praised Monarchs owner-general manager Mark Gilman.
