Birds edged by Barons

Kevin Labelle made 48 saves and Jimmy Roy scored the game winner just past the 10-minute mark of the third period as the visiting Sudbury Nickel Barons edged the Soo Thunderbirds 3-2 in Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League action from Saturday.

Dylan Callaghan and Lucas Toth also scored for Sudbury.

Izaak Del Mastro and Travis Campbell replied for the Soo, which outshot Sudbury 50-35 in front of more than 280 fans at John Rhodes Community Centre.

  1. Sounds like Labelle had a great game for the Barons. He played very well for the Espanola Rivermen during the playoffs last year.

  2. espofan, So he was with the Rivermen last season was he wow ! we seem to have two solid tenders on the squad this season ! love it man. Hey how is your team looking this season in exhibition play ?

  3. Hey Barons fan the kid was lights out in net last year, impressive right from the start.

    As for the Rivermen…Preseason is going ok still some work to be done and more
    players are coming in with some cuts that were made. The speed of the game is impressive as
    well.
