MC Monarchs of the Midwest Jr. Hockey League have rounded out their coaching staff.

The new Michigan-based, MWJHL franchise has brought aboard 31-year-old former college and minor-pro player Dan Oleksy as an assistant under head coach Jason McCrimmon.

Oleksy played at the minor-pro level with the erstwhile Port Huron Flags, Detroit Dragons and Detroit Hitmen and at Oakland University during his college years.

“Being currently the only junior team in Macomb County makes Dan’s presence in our recruiting efforts infinitely important because of his experience coaching, living and playing in the region,” said Monarchs general manager Mark Gilman.

“He knows the kids competing in the area and has a great relationship with our head coach Jason McCrimmon, who he has trained with in the off-season,” Gilman added. “The kids we sign this season will benefit greatly from the experienced tandem we have leading this team on the ice and behind the bench. ”

Oleksy is the older brother of Steve Oleksy, who has played 68 games over the past two seasons as a defenceman with the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League.

The younger Oleksy also played three seasons of Division 1, National Collegiate Athletic Association hockey with the Lake Superior State University Lakers.
