Fighting Irish tryouts start tonite

It’s tryout time in Brownstown.

Open tryouts for the Detroit Fighting Irish of the Midwest Jr. Hockey League start tonight.

The tryouts will be held tonight, Thursday and Friday of this week from 6-10 p.m. at Ice Box Sports Center in the Detroit suburb of Brownstown.

The tryouts are open to all players born in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998.

Then beginning this Sunday, the Fighting Irish will be hosting a junior-college summer league at the Ice Box.

Games will be played on Sunday nights until August 10 at the Ice Box.

The league is open to players born in 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998.

Players will skate in two games every Sunday and there will be a maximum of 13 players per team.

Teams will be balanced by way of age, experience and skill level.
