Fighting Irish home to Soo for two

Detroit Fighting Irish has a pair of home games slated for the Ice Box Sports Centre — tonight at 8:10 p.m. and Saturday afternoon at 3:10 p.m.

Soo Firehawks will depart the snow of the Eastern Upper Peninsula region and head south for the back-to-back meetings with the Fighting Irish, which holds down third place in the Midwest Jr. Hockey League with a record of 10-6-1.

As Detroit has played 17 games thus far this season, the Soo has played in only 12 and has a record of 3-8-1.

Top scorer for the Fighting Irish is forward Ken Winter with 11 goals, 11 assists, 22 points. Trailing Winter on the Fighting Irish scoring chart are fellow forwards James Smith at 6-14-20, Jacob Hernandez at 12-6-18, Chuck Hicks at 8-6-14 and Rob Danyo at 5-9-14.

Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. product Cody Anderson leads the Firehawks in scoring with 9 goals, 3 assists, 12 points. Another forward, James Goudreau, is second on the Soo score sheet with 3 goals, 4 assists, 7 points.

  1. Think I am going to catch this one tonite as game’s with the “Zoo” Fire Hawks usualy means a few “fire works” if ya know what I mean.

  2. Hernandez is a fan favorite because of his feisty style that he plays and he’s a favorite of mine to.
    P.S. I think he has more family members at the game’s than any other player’s on the Irish!
