Fighting Irish, Hounds are 1-2

The top two teams in the Midwest Jr. Hockey League both registered victories on Sunday.

Detroit Fighting Irish out-scored the Michigan Ice Dogs 6-4 while the Traverse City Hounds took the measure of the Decatur Blaze by a 6-4 margin.

DETROIT 6, MICHIGAN 4

Jacob Hernandez scored twice and James Smith found range once and added two assists as the first-place Fighting Irish improved its record to 19-6-3 atop the MWJHL standings.

The goals for Hernandez give him 19 on the season.

TRAVERSE CITY 6, DECATUR 2

The Hounds kept pace with Detroit with the road win at Decatur.

Traverse City now has 39 points, two less than Detroit, but has seven games in hand on the Fighting Irish.

Cam Givens had the hat trick to pace the Hounds, who ran their record to 19-1-1 with the triumph.

  1. Point streak has George Hill’s minutes incorrect. He played 31 minutes on Sunday not 20 minutes as posted. Any trade activity. Why do the Irish have 4 goalies?
