Firehawks at Big Bear for three

Seeking to vacate the cellar of the Midwest Jr. Hockey League, Soo Firehawks are home for three games this weekend as they play host to the MC Monarchs.

With a record of 5-13-2, seventh-place Soo is a point back of the sixth-place Alpena Flyers in the MWJHL standings. Alpena has a record of 5-11-3.

As Alpena has a home-and-home series with the 19-1-1 Traverse City Hounds this weekend, the Soo will try to take advantage of Big Bear Arena when it plays host to MC tonight at 7:30, Saturday evening at 7:00 and Sunday afternoon at 1:00.

MC is a strong third in the MWJHL with a record of 19-8 and features league scoring leader Adam Jonak, who has a remarkable 35 goals, 48 assists, 83 points. The Monarchs also boast the MWJHL’s top scoring defenceman in Jarrad Vroman, who has 10-31-41 numbers.

Veteran forward Cody Anderson, who hails from the Canadian side of the International Bridge at the Soo, tops the Firehawks scoring chart with 12 goals, 5 assists, 17 points.
