Soo Firehawks made a triumphant return to action while the Traverse City Hounds remained unbeaten following Midwest Jr. Hockey League activity from Friday night.

Playing for the first time in 19 days, the Soo used the home ice of Big Bear Arena to outlast the Detroit Fighting Irish 5-4. Meanwhile, visiting Traverse City extended its perfect record to 10-0 with a 6-2 win over the Alpena Flyers.

A goal by Michael Mullen just before the nine-minute mark of the third period provided the margin of victory in the Firehawks win over the Fighting Irish. James Goudreau had a three-point night to lead the Soo, which improved its record to 3-3-1 with the win.

The Firehawks play host to the Fighting Irish again tonight in a 7 p.m. start at Big Bear.

At Alpena, Cam Givens potted a pair of goals and added an assist to pace Traverse City to its tenth-straight triumph. Jacob Gillis and Patrick Rogowski contributed three helpers apiece for the winners.

What you think about “Hawks and Hounds get the W”

  1. I do not go to nearley as many Firehawks Games as Eagles Games or Lakers Games how ever stating that the MWJHL is not that bad of a League. I went to the Game last nite (just for a change) and it was a close game. With many good Players for both the Soo and Detroit. MWJHL is “under-rated” in my opinion.
RR, Your coverage of this League along with your reports and articles on the other League’s is shall I say “Number One”!
