They are the new leaders of the Irish hockey family.

Detroit Fighting Irish of the Midwest Jr. Hockey League has named its captains for the 2014-2015 season.

Fighting Irish coach-general manager Dan Vasquez confirmed to HockeyNewsNorth.com that 1994 birth-year forward James Smith and 1995 birth-year forward Jacob Hernandez will be co-captains.

Vasquez also announced that fellow veteran forwards Robbie Danyo and Richie Pinkowski have been selected as assistant captains for the Fighting Irish.

“I am very happy to have these young men as part of our organization and have all the confidence that they will carry on the tradition and the mission of the Fighting Irish family and make sure that their teammates will also work to do the same,” said Vasquez.
