Three 1994 birth-year skaters have been selected to serve as captains for the Soo Firehawks of the Midwest Jr. Hockey League.

The three — defencemen Matthew Majic and Matthew Maclaren and forward Anthony Laaskonen — are all Sault Ste. Marie area products who will be playing in their third season with the Firehawks in 2014-2015.

Majic is from the Canadian side of the International Bridge while Maclaren and Laaskonen are Michigan residents.

All three are also students at Lake Superior State University.

“They are all last-year guys and will be a very good influence on all new and younger players,” Firewhawks head coach Joe Esson told HockeyNewsNorth.com. “I expect them to really take control of this team and pick up where we left off last year.”

Along with the Traverse City Hounds, the Firehawks represented the MWJHL at the 2014 United Hockey Union national championship tournament.

The Firehawks will open the 2014-2015 MWJHL regular season on October 3-4-5 with three home games at Big Bear Arena.
