Soo Firehawks to Division 1 ACHA
Andrew Holder, a 1993 birth-year forward from the Detroit area, will advance to play for Western Michigan University of the Division 1, American Collegiate Hockey Association in 2014-2015.
Holder, a 6-foot-3, 225 pounder, had 40 goals, 33 assists, 73 points in 41 games for Soo Firehawks of the Midwest Jr. Hockey League in 2013-2014.
Firehawks head coach Joe Esson told HockeyNewsNorth.com that since Holder has high academic aspirations, the opportunity to play at the ACHA level and attend Western Michigan University “is something that Andrew jumped on.
“He really has done a lot of things the right way and I am extremely proud of Andrew,” Esson added.
Meanwhile, Esson and the Firehawks are getting set for their main tryout camp that begins this Friday at 5 p.m. at Big Bear Arena in the Michigan Soo.
The tryout camp is open to players born in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998.
