Two Hounds, two others
Here are four Christmas presents from the Midwest Jr. Hockey League, which has unwrapped its players of the week for the period ending Sunday, December 21.
The awards are voted on by coaches, general managers and MWJHL staff.
Forward of the Week: Adam Jonak, MC Monarchs
The MWJHL’s leading scorer, Jonak netted four goals and added five assists last weekend as the Monarchs took two of three on the road against the Soo Firehawks.
On the season, the 1994 birth year pivot has 39 goals, 53 assists, 92 points in 30 games.
Defenseman of the Week: Rob Danyo, Detroit Fighting Irish
Danyo, a versatile skater who can play forward and defense, piled up five points last weekend as Detroit swept a home-and-home set from the Michigan Ice Dogs.
For the season, Danyo has nine goals, 15 assists 24 points — which is fifth on the Fighting Irish scoring chart.
Goaltender of the Week: Justin Abdelhak, Traverse City Hounds
Abdelhak posted both wins in the Hounds two-game sweep of the Alpena Flyers last weekend.
For the season, Abdelhak has a record of 8-1 to go with a 1.80 goals-against average and .940 save percentage.
Rookie of the Week: Kevin Cole, Traverse City Hounds
A 1996 birth year forward, Cole had three goals and an assist in Traverse City’s two wins against Alpena.
