Six teams representing three junior hockey leagues sanctioned by the American Athletic Union will compete for a national championship in Las Vegas this week.
From this area, Traverse City Hounds will represent the Midwest Jr. Hockey League as champions from the 2013-2014 season. And Soo Firehawks, who lost to Traverse City in the league finals, are representing the MWJHL as its second seed. …[read more]

The top two teams from the regular season will face off for the North American Hockey League’s North Division playoff championship.

Why chirp the CIHL?
So, the newly-formed Canadian International Hockey League intends to take to the ice for the 2014-2015 season with between six to 10 Ontario-based teams.
The new Tier 2 junior league is designed to be a global loop made up of Canadian, American and European players.
Espanola Rivermen owner Tim Clayden is the founder of the CIHL and he brings his team there from the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League where it finished third in the standings and first on the attendance chart in 2013-2014.
To be sure, Clayden isn’t leaving the NOJHL with hugs and kisses for certain team governors or commissioner Robert Mazzuca. …[read more]

Power forward Mike Sabatini has committed to play for the Canisius College Golden Griffins of the Division 1, Atlantic Hockey Association effective the 2014-2015 season.
Sabatini, a 6-foot-1, 185 pounder, led the Soo Eagles of the North American Hockey League in scoring during the 2013-2014 season with 19 goals, 22 assists, 41 points in 58 games. …[read more]

The reputable Dean Pauli, who has held management positions with teams in the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League and Ontario Jr. Hockey League, has joined the new Canadian International Hockey League as its Vice President and Chairman of the Discipline Committee.

Erie Otters are in a sweet spot heading into Game 3 of their second-round, best-of-seven, Ontario Hockey League playoff series with Soo Greyhounds.
The Otters snagged successive wins on the road last week to take a 2-0 series lead over the Greyhounds with Game 3 tonight in Erie.
Playoffs included, the Otters have an OHL-best record of 32-3-1 on home ice this season.
